Partnership kicks off on Flag Day, runs through Veterans Day

SAVAGE, Md. (June 13, 2025) – In celebration of Flag Day on June 14 and to honor our junior enlisted military members and their families, Maryland-based ZIPS Cleaners is kicking off a partnership with the Armed Services YMCA to make a donation to the national nonprofit for each American flag brought in to be cleaned. While flag cleaning is available for free year-round at ZIPS, the dry cleaning company will contribute $1.77 for each flag cleaned in celebration of the year 1777 when the Stars & Stripes were adopted as our nation’s official colors. The campaign will run through Veterans Day.

According to Mary Ann Donaghy, ZIPS chief marketing and customer experience officer, “This is a long-time tradition at ZIPS to demonstrate our pride in our great country. With our free flag cleaning service, we’ll help keep their flag flying proudly for all our customers, all year long.

“We are particularly honored this year to partner with the Armed Services YMCA to show our appreciation for all they do to help enhance the lives of our junior enlisted military members and their families. When our customers get their flags cleaned at ZIPS, they also contribute to furthering programs that meet the unique challenges of military life.”

With school out for the summer and service members entering a busy permanent change of station (PCS) season, ASYMCA Chief Development Officer Dorene Ocamb said, “Kicking off the ZIPS flag campaign this weekend is a great opportunity for us to highlight our summer programs and events. Seventy percent of military parents report difficulty accessing quality, affordable childcare. The ASYMCA helps bridge that gap with military youth programs and family-focused summer support.
